*our glorious bed in Thailand;)
When Elisa and I first starting dating, I found it so precious that each night, just before she was off and dreaming, she’d sleepily mumble, “What was your favorite thing about today?” I’m not sure, in that first year, whether she ever made it to the end of my list, because I don’t remember asking her in return.
Now, it seems, there is absolutely no falling asleep until both of us have answered. We’ve even been known to tap each other on the shoulder, “Excuse me, you forgot to ask me.”
On the rare nights when we both pass out, inevitably Elisa will wake up wondering what my favorite thing was from yesterday before I forget. We go through the whole ritual before we get out of bed.
What had started as a sweet and somewhat silly practice has become a mainstay in our relationship. A joint practice of gratitude that both of us have really grown to appreciate. It requires us to reflect on our day and pull out as many gems as we can to share with each other. It’s a beautiful way to fall asleep. Connected. Grateful. Smiling.
As budding entrepreneurs, savings accounts, wedding plans, and vacations seem more distant than we’d like to discuss. Reminding each other of the great abundances in our lives each night, allows us to remain focused on what we do have, NOT what we may be potentially lacking.
For this, I am incredibly grateful. We are rich beyond measure when we count the right way.
I leave you with this: Do you have a gratitude practice? Can you take it to bed with you? Try it. For the next week or so, either journal by yourself or ask your partner, “What was your favorite part about today?” Enjoy it;)
#Onward in thanks.
PS. you are always welcome to tune in or join in on the daily gratitude happening at Gratidude is the New Sexy on Facebook. There are about 250 of us and counting, sharing one thing well and good each day.
PSS. Now that I think about it, I’m not sure we did our gratitude thing in Thailand. The last thing I remember each night was a big belly full of delicious Thai food and pitchers of fresh from the coconut pina coladas!!
