TYOMD is on the road this week in sunny Florida! Or, typically-sunny-Florida, as we are experiencing it now.
Rain or shine, it’s warm enough for tanks and flip flops, so we’re sittin pretty as it’s fixing to snow again in Brooklyn this week.
I don’t know if it was the frighteningly pale skin or the shit grin we held on our bayside run, in the light rain this afternoon, that was a dead giveaway to passerby-ers that we were tourists.
Unfortunately, for not just us, the clouds never lifted, and here we are heading into our shoot tomorrow with the same all-vampire, less-chic skin we boarded the plane with.
We are here, in Tampa, for a TV spot for a travel show on the Live Well Network. Seemingly random, I know, but let me tell you this story on manifesting. It’s kind of a trip.
Real quick background: We arrived in Brooklyn in August, 2012. Fall turned to winter fairly quickly, and not long in, after a couple years abroad living in sub-tropic Hong Kong, we could feel the effects.
We were depressed. Crabby. House-bound. Chubby. Let’s just say winter hurt our feelings–real BAD–last year. So much so that we swore up and down we would never go a full winter in New York again without a decent vacation to brighten up the gray in between.
Before I could throw out my long list of sunny spots I’d been dying to visit, Elisa tosses out firmly, Tampa.
“We are not going to Tampa, babe.” I said scoffing. Although, no offense to Tampanians–oh, that’s funny … tampanians;) “There are so many places I’d love to see before Tampa.”
She carried on and on about her friends being here and how important they are to her and she never gets to see them and, Paul has kids … and they’re just babies …
It went on.
Thankfully, with a whole year between then and now, it was dropped and not to be mentioned again, until November or December.
“When are we going on our vacation?”
“February or March,” I said, with little idea how it would all happen given I’d just lost my job and was starting a new venture.
As February approached, I was happy we had a snowboard vacation on the books with family, because I couldn’t see how we were going to swing that sunny vacay after all. But, on the DL, I was hopeful that being out on the mountains in nature might give us the illusion we were being refreshed like only a beach can do.
I said hopeful.
The timing was perfect. It came after a wedding talk, which always leads to the money talk, which always leads to a priorities talk, which always leads to some variation of silent treatment.
I didn’t even share the news with Elisa until more than a day after I received the email. “Oh by the way, we’ve been asked to be on a travel show.”
“I don’t know. They haven’t told us yet.”
Emails went back and forth about “yes, we’re willing.” “This is where we like to go.” “This is what we like to do.” “Sure, we’ll go anywhere.”
I kid you not. Three days later we get the call that, of all places, we were headed to Tampa. “Next month.”
So here we are, on location, manifesting. ‘Cuz, apparently, that’s how we do;)
I met Elisa’s friends this evening, and I will admit, they aren’t just fine Tampanians, they’re real good people too. I see now what all the fuss was about.
Alright, Tampa. You’ve got my attention. Show me what’ya got;)
I leave you with this: What can you put your intentions/attention on and then let go of the how? Try it. You never know where you’ll end up. For realz.
PS … The word on the street is that this course is gonna be awesome, at least that’s what I keep telling people. Do check out our latest and greatest joint venture: Spring Cleaning: Mind, Body, Soul 6-Week Course. It’s where it’s at.
