Cheating Yourself
I used to cheat at hand solitaire when I was a kid and one day my aunt (all wise and annoying) leaned over my shoulder and said … “You’re only cheating yourself, you know?”
I both hated her and later appreciated her for saying that.
I had a great chat with a client this past week and we were talking about that inner rebel self. The one that just refuses to be tamed. The one that when everyone else is following the rules like cattle-herd, you’re doing your own–way better–thing.
The rebel offers a few perks, like scoring seats at a concert in a section you’ve snuck both you and your date into (check). It will also afford you some confidence to go against the grain, when fear is holding others back (check).
But, let’s be honest, that inner rebel is most often not working with your best interests in mind. Cheating on your diet, girlfriend, project, running program, etc. (check, double-check, check, check) is not earning you any more points on your cool card, like it may feel in the moment.
Breaking the “rules” in this case, isn’t winning a game … it’s just cheating yourself.
I leave you with this: Check your rebel, before she checks you. Otherwise, you’re just being played.

Hahaha ohhhh Kat that story made me laugh! I could feel the irritation of that little child -and my inner child! It is so funny how we can often feel the need to lie to ourselves. Great reality check 🙂 With love, Sharon

Yup, I used to be awesome at lying and cheating myself. I couldn’t even keep track of what lies I told myself, lol. Thank goodness I grew outta that;)
