If You Can’t Walk, then Crawl: 3 simple tips to getting your dream started today

I just watched a vid from my homeboy, Brendon Burchard. I’m still working my way through his latest book Motivation Manifesto, which, as expected, is amazing. He is one of my go-to guys for when I’m feeling funky and full of excuses.

He and I agree on most things, and his take on action is no different.

We all talk about being fearful and how that stops us from achieving our desires, but is that the whole truth, nothing but the truth? Perhaps we need to look deeper to see what’s really going on?

This is where it’s important to get bitchy-best-friend honest. Brendon says there is likely an issue with competency, discipline and sustained motivation–I know, for myself, I can’t argue with that.

So if it’s an issue with competency, let’s get to learning, right? Schedule it. Whether it be a class, or doing your own research, put it on the calendar and follow through with the same diligence you would an assignment from a boss.

Further competency breeds more confidence, which tumbles forward into action and gained momentum. Before you know it you’ll wonder who that person was that was fearful at all.

And all this can be done on the basic principle of three. You can cover a whole lot of ground by accomplishing just 3 actions each day toward the bigger goal. It doesn’ t matter how small: a phone call, an email, getting organized.

And set a launch date. Whatever your dream … you need a date. We all work better with an “end goal” [read: new beginning] in sight.

One of my fave MLK quotes: If you can’t fly, then run; if you can’t run, then walk; if you can’t walk, then crawl; but whatever you do, you must keep moving forward.
