I love Deepak lectures because he infuses poetry: Rumi, Tagore, Hafiz, scripture, science, and, of course, his humor.
He took us on a stroll through the vastness of the multiverse. Even the unbelievable vastness of our own universe: billions of habitable planets (say what?). All for the sake of bringing us back to awe. “If you are not astonished that you exist, your humanity is not complete.”
There was so much cool science about dark energy and dark matter, particles and waves, and hard problems and consciousness. Stuff I studied a while back, but was just as blown away to hear it again. We forget the miracle of our own existence, much less the the whole question of perception and experience.
For our purposes here, it made me think about all the unknowns, how we create our own world through culture, senses, etc., how malleable it all is, and yet we get so stuck in the idea that everything is fixed–when that couldn’t be further from the truth, leaving even the greatest scientists scratching their heads.
Even if I could remember all the science, I wouldn’t take you through it here, but let’s just break it down like so: we are not our thoughts, we are the awareness behind our thoughts, awareness is beyond space and time, without time–there is no death, without death–there is no fear (because all fear is fear of death in sheep’s clothing), and without fear we are all killing it in our dreams and living the life we desire, right?
“Everything comes to us that belongs to us if we create the capacity to receive it.” -Tagore
I leave you with this: What do you make of them apples?
“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.” -Einstein
